ICx Technologies to Enhance the Cerberus Security Sensor Platform for the United States Army

Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) Award Includes Sensors, Systems Evaluations

ICx New Heights, a business unit of ICx Technologies, has been awarded a contract by the United States Army to develop short-, mid- and long-range security sensor platforms based on the Army's Cerberus unmanned mobile security towers. ICx will coordinate with the U.S. Army's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) to develop Cerberus systems uniquely adapted to address the current needs in force protection and perimeter defense.

Under the terms of the contract, the ICx Cerberus towers will be equipped with additional sensor and surveillance systems, including a security operating system to monitor and control sensors, imagers and power systems both on the tower and dispersed remotely over a wide spectrum of ranges. The Cerberus platforms will also be equipped with alternative power options and enhanced resistance to harsh external environments.

The 12-month contract also includes options for additional platform units and associated field support including field surveys, system set up, operator training, and system maintenance. The contract also calls for ICx to evaluate and field test specific sensors and surveillance system enhancements to support scalability, modularity, and other requirements.

"The Army has placed its trust in ICx to develop sensor platforms that will protect soldiers and facilities in a variety of challenging environments," said Adam Strange, CEO of ICx New Heights. "This critical assignment will also aid in our continuous efforts to enhance the performance and versatility of the Cerberus solutions."

Cerberus provides a fully customizable mobile sensor tower suitable for rapid deployment wherever unmanned surveillance or communication is required. Alone, a Cerberus unit can provide the information needed for a specific region at a given time. Networked, multiple Cerberus towers form their own mesh network, communicating autonomously with each other to act as the ideal virtual fence solution.
