ICx Recasts Chemical Agent Detection Kit Specifically for First Responders

Now Detects Toxic Industrial Chemicals in Addition to Chemical Warfare Agents with Fast, Reliable Pre- and Post-Decontamination Results

WASHINGTON (Apr. 15, 2008) – ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT), a developer of advanced sensor solutions for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications, announced today the availability of a new version of its popular Agentase™ CAD-Kit, an enzyme-based chemical agent point detection system. This version was designed for the commercial market – especially for first responders – and reflects their particular needs.

ICx listened to end users and developed sensors that give EMS personnel and other first responders the ability to conduct surface, solid and liquid examination of Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) such as acids, bases, aldehydes, and oxidizers, as well as nerve (G&V series), blood (AC) and blister (HD) agents. TIC accidents are faced by commercial end-users, such as hospitals, hazmat teams, and EMS personnel on a daily basis.

“The three major CWA sensors—nerve, blister (sulfur mustard [HD]) and blood (cyanide [AC])—are all still included,” said Keith LeJeune, general manager of the ICx Agentase business unit. “Three new sensors—for acids, bases, oxidizers (including certain explosive materials) and aldehydes—were also added to improve the utility of the kit.”

The Agentase CAD-Kit provides quick, accurate results in field environments, improves detection limits to rival those of expensive handheld electronic testing devices, provides fast signals that are easy to interpret and insures the efficacy of current hospital decontamination techniques. The simplicity of this kit makes it user friendly for the entire first responder community and, unlike other field detection equipment, the Agentase CAD-Kit has extremely low rates of false positives and negatives.

Once a responder has identified the hazard present using the Agentase CAD-Kit, individual sensors are used to verify the contamination of people, equipment and the environment. In addition, the sensors can be used for testing post decontamination victims to confirm process efficiency and prevent cross contamination.
