ICx Deploys First Working Mobile Surveillance Towers for Border Protection on the Southern Border under a $4 Million Contract
WASHINGTON (July 8, 2008) - ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT), a developer of advanced sensor solutions for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications, announced today that it received a $4 million order and has begun shipping several Cerberus unmanned mobile surveillance system units to the Southern border.
The ICx Cerberus unit is a fully integrated mobile surveillance tower that combines advanced, high-resolution radars with thermal and imaging cameras on a common software platform, thus making it easier to identify and track potential intruders.
ICx has been developing Cerberus jointly with the U.S. Army, RDECOM, CERDEC Night Vision, Electronic Sensors Directorate and Customs and Border Patrol. The win means that ICx is the first company to successfully deploy mobile surveillance system technology along a portion of the Southern border's "virtual fence."
"Border Patrol agents face tough challenges in making our borders safer. Technology, deployed well, can play an important part in assisting our agents in making that happen," said Adam Strange, president of ICx Tactical Platforms. "We are glad to be an integral part of Customs and Border Patrol's focus, and of being the first to provide them with a working solution to this important challenge."
