OASYS
Obstacle Awareness System to Detect Objects in a Helicopter's Flight Path
Overview
OASYS Radar is an obstacle awareness system designed to detect objects in a helicopter's flight path in all sorts of weather and flight conditions. Through snow, light rain, smoke, mist, fog and dust, OASYS Radar detects potential hazards like towers, buildings, terrain and both live and dead power lines.
This innovative radar system emits electromagnetic pulses at a frequency of 35 GHz. These pulses bounce off obstacles in or near the flight path. The system assesses the criticality of the obstacles and alerts the pilot with a display and audio warning. When the flight path is modified to avoid an obstacle, the system automatically adjusts, updating the information in real time.
Obstacles detected by OASYS Radar are classified into three distinct levels of alerts. A white light indicates that there is no direct threat to the aircraft. An amber LED accompanied by a voice warning indicates that the obstacle detected could quickly become a threat and that the pilot should exercise caution. A red light accompanied by a strong voice warning repeating "Obstacle Obstacle" indicates imminent danger that requires the pilot to maneuver to avoid the obstacle.
OASYS Radar is the first obstacle awareness system designed to meet the needs of civil and tactical applications operators alike. It adapts readily to helicopters with both digital and non-digital avionics.
