Overview

The BioBadge™ is a commercially-available, hand held, battery-operated air sampler that collects airborne biological particles in the 1-10 micron size range. It utilizes the ICx patented rotating impactor technology. BioBadge impacts airborne particles onto a collection disk that rotates at high speed relative to the sampled air. An electronic motor drives the collection disk via a magnetic coupling. This facilitates easy insertion and removal of the sample from the unit. After sampling, particles are rinsed from the collection disk for subsequent analysis.

Slightly larger than a cellular phone, the BioBadge is small and lightweight enough to be worn by an individual for monitoring exposure to biological organisms. It can be placed unobtrusively in an area suspect of contamination. It could be configured to be remotely operated (on/off) via wireless communication.
